The World's Worst Nuclear Disaster - What Happened at Chernobyl [23 Mar 2005|09:40pm]

On 26th April 1986 at 1.23 a.m.: The world's worst nuclear disaster took place at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in the northern Ukraine. 190 tons of highly radioactive uranium and graphite were expelled into the atmosphere. The result was an international ecological calamity.

I am new here. My name is Steve, and my biggest fear is nuclear technology/science. Everything from power plants to warheads. It scares me, but it also makes me learn more about it. I am in a punk band as well, and most of the lyrics are very anti-nuclear. I just wanted to say "hi" and thank whoever made this community.

Article 9, Japan's promise of peace to the world, is under threat again...
Since the symbol originated here in Japan, I'm suggesting to people that the Japanese government might require a peaceful reminder. If you wouldn't mind sending a few birds, write "article 9" on them somewhere with perhaps anything else you'd like to add, and send them to this address:

1-6-1 Nagata-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-8914, Japan

Here's How:

Koizumi calls for revision of Constitution's war-renouncing Article 9

Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 07:34 JST
TOKYO — Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi reiterated his call for revising the war-renouncing article of Japan's Constitution to make clear the Self-Defense Forces are legitimate in a recent interview with Newsweek magazine.

P.S. spread the message...

Interesting he was convicted of treason for releasing this information. I consider the development of nuclear weapons much more sinister than releasing evidence of their existence.

We'll All Go Together! [06 May 2004|12:06pm]

[ mood | full ]

Heard these lyrics on Democracy Now!, and had to share here (yes, I have a sick sense of humor :))

When you attend a funeral,
It is sad to think that sooner or
Later those you love will do the same for you.
And you may have thought it tragic,
Not to mention other adjec-
Tives, to think of all the weeping they will do.
But don't you worry.
No more ashes, no more sackcloth.
And an armband made of black cloth
Will some day never more adorn a sleeve.
For if the bomb that drops on you
Gets your friends and neighbors too,
There'll be nobody left behind to grieve.

And we will all go together when we go.
What a comforting fact that is to know.
Universal bereavement,
An inspiring achievement,
Yes, we all will go together when we go.

What do you do if you're trapped in an asylum and the doctors are all dangerously deranged? [13 Sep 2003|03:15pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

Hi! I just joined the community. I have always been very anti-nuclear (and I can pronounce the word "nuclear" better than our current president). I'm excited to be in this community. Have any of y'all read Arundhati Roy's essays on the nuclear armament of India and Pakistan? I think they're fantastic. If you haven't, here's a link to my favorite essay of hers, "The End of Imagination". Have a good day!

Hey, I just joined this community, and I'm very much interested in stopping nuclear attacks of any kind, because I have learned about the devastation they can bring. I hope to make friends with people that share my sentiment. Some of my ancestors on my father's side (who is in Japan) can attest to the devastation that it has caused, i.e. the Hiroshima and Nagasaki incidents in WWII.

hey all... [04 Nov 2002|10:45am]

just found this community in the last 5 minutes and wanted to express my support for complete nuclear disarmament! being from the UK, i constantly hear and read about tony blair's wishes to be the unilateral nation that ends in nuclear programme, but we are yet to see any evidence of this!

peoples eyes need to be opened to the fact that nuclear weapons cause nothing but death & destruction on scale that we can never contain or comprehend! i only hope that the world never has a chance to witness that devastation ever again!

nuclear weapons are a threat to all life, human and non-human.

Join Jane Goodall, Muhammad Ali, Harrison Ford, Queen Noor, Jimmy Carter, Coretta Scott King and 37 Nobel Laureates in signing this Appeal to the leaders of nuclear weapons states. We must make these leaders understand that continuing to run the risk of nuclear annihilation is unacceptable and unworthy of the human spirit.
